::::::::READ DESCRIPTION:::::::: What is the #1 most important basic feature that the iphone has been lacking since day one? Copy & Paste. Yes it is more important than MMS; everyone would benefit from some nice copy/paste action (which is standard on nearly every other smartphone on the market). As of just a couple short hours ago the dream has come one step closer to reality with a Cydia app named Clippy.

With RedSn0w 0.7.1 iPod Touch 1g and 2g users can jailbreak 3.0 firmware on Windows. Before following this guide please restore your iPod Touch to 3.0 firmware. To get the 3.0 firmware you have to connect to iTunes, check for updates, and buy it for about $10. Yes Apple is screwing you. Positive side is that if you have both a 1g and a 2g you get to download firmware for both for $10.
You will need RedSn0w 0.7.1 which you can download right here Redsn0w for Windows (1480) (Download requires login) along with the 3.0 firmware file for your device. Since you already bought and downloaded the firmware in order to upgrade to 3.0 you can find it on your computer
iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is the iPod Touch 2g 3.0 firmware file.
iPod1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is the iPod Touch 1g 3.0 firmware file.
On XP they are located in
C:\Documents and Settings\ YOUR USER NAME \Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\
On Vista the are located in
C:\Users\ YOUR USER NAME \AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates\
Lets begin. Extract redsn0w-win_0.7.1.zip to a location on your computer and run redsn0w.exe.
Click Browse.
Find your firmware file, select it, and click Open.
RedSn0w will tell you that the ISPW has been successfully identified. Click Next.
You’ll see a pop up as RedSn0w does some stuff.
Select to Install Cydia and click Next.
Now you should plug in your iPod Touch and turn it off. Once you are done click Next.
RedSn0w gives you instructions. We are entering DFU mode now. First hold the power button for 3 seconds.
Keep holding the power button and start holding the home button for 10 seconds.
Release the power button but continue holding the home button for 30 seconds.
RedSn0w does its thing. Let it.
Finally RedSn0w has finished loading everything onto your iPod Touch. You will see a pretty screen on your iPod as it is being jailbroken. Don’t mess with your iPod while all this is going on. After your iPod restarts you are done!
I did not have an iPod Touch to perform the jailbreak, so I give all credit for this tutorial to Modmyi.com.

These instructions will walk you through jailbreaking your iPhone on your PC using the Dev-Teams official Redsn0w software for Windows. This will not jailbreak the new iPhone 3G S. Redsn0w is also available for Mac (Intel only) You can follow the same instructions. I used Redsn0w on a Vista PC but it should work with XP as well.

Use Redsn0w to:
To begin, you will need to download the following: (all downloads require login)
Save these to your desktop for easy access.
1. Make sure you have updated your device officially to OS 3.0 through iTunes.
2. Make sure your iPhone is off. Do this by holding the power button (top of phone) then slide to power off.
3. Connect your iPhone via USB.
4. Start Redsn0w.exe
5. Browse for your firmware that you downloaded. (Make sure you have the correct firmware for your device) Then click next.
6. If you want to unlock your OG iPhone then check both Cydia and Unlock. If you do not need to Unlock then only have Cydia checked and proceed to step 7.
6 a. If you are unlocking your iPhone then you need to browse for the 3.9 and 4.6 Bootloaders that you should have downloaded and saved. Then click next.
7. Redsn0w will ask you to make sure your iPhone is powered off but you should have done that already. If you didn’t follow the directions to do it now.
8. Once your iPhone is off, be prepared for step 8 because it starts quickly, then click next.
9. This is where you will put your iPhone into DFU mode. Follow the instructions in order to achieve this.
10. If you correctly put your iPhone into DFU mode you will see that Redsn0w will begin the jailbreak process. Let it do it’s thing, which should take about 5 minutes. (Redsn0w crashed the first time I tried to jailbreak and left me with the “Running PwnApple” on my phone. Don’t worry, just power off your phone again and start the process from the beginning. It worked perfectly the 2nd time for me.)
Redsn0w gives you instructions through the entire process so you should not have any problems as long as you follow everything exactly. If you have any problems please leave a comment so we can help.
If you feel like it’s worth it
The iPhone Dev-Team have officially released their Pwnage Tool application for jailbreaking the iPhone OG, iPhone 3G, and iPod Touch 1st Gen running OS 3.0. This release is only for use on a Mac running OS X. A similar tool, QuickPwn for Mac and PC, will be released very soon. As always you are cautioned to use this at your own risk as it may void your warranty and if you don’t follow directions well then you may want to find someone who can because you could bork up your device. Here is the release straight from the iPhone Dev-Team blog. Make sure you read the entire post to make sure your device is supported. There are certain restrictions if your phone is unlocked and if you have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Download links for the Pwnage Tool are included.
This is the low down on our tools for use with the 3.0 firmware from Apple, read the whole post in full before attempting anything. Because of some bugs and unexpected changes this will be a multipart release, starting with the release of PwnageTool for Mac OS X. QuickPwn for Mac OS X and Windows will follow sometime soon, please don’t bug us about it, we are working flat out to get everything finished to release them.
- GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.
- Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).
- Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
- Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
- At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.0 capable version of PwnageTool.
- This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
- PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
- PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.
Baseband 101
The ‘baseband’ is the generic nickname given to the internal components of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This ‘baseband’ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main part of the phone over an internal communications network. Think of it like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to fix bugs or add new features). The 3.0 update for the iPhone 3G contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband.
SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G
This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 3.0 using iTunes and then use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to jailbreak your phone.
iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then use PwnageTool to do the magic, ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.
iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)
Update to 3.0 with iTunes and use PwnageTool.
iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool, use Redsn0w instead.

Happy Jailbreaking
iPhone Dev-Team
The iPhone Dev-Team has been working hard to bring us jailbreak software for the iPhone and iPod Touch and their latest versions of Pwnage Tool and QuickPwn are on the verge of being released. There are still a few bugs they are trying to work out before they release, but it should not take them that long. In the meantime, they may release a version that still has a bug that disables the YouTube app on devices that are not legally activated with AT&T, seeing that it will only affect iPhones that are unlocked.
Update 1 (Wednesday morning):
- Only ultrasn0w is going to take til Friday to get pushed out. All of our other tools should be out pretty soon after the official Apple release.
- If you apply our jailbreak when it comes out, you can install ultrasn0w anytime after that. You obviously won’t have cell service in the meantime, though.
- This may in fact be directly applicable to the iPhone 3GS if it can be jailbroken, because it runs the same baseband version. Whether or not it can be jailbroken is a big question right now!
- If you’re on Twitter, please give @Oranav a pat on the back. He could have revealed the crash he found to Apple and maybe gotten quite an incentive in return. Instead, he told us about it so that we could work it into an injection vector for the soft unlock.
Update 2 (Thursday morning):
- We have two issues that we’ve been trying to resolve:
- There are new 3.0 complications with YouTube.app if you’re on a hacktivated (unofficially activated) device
- There’s a bug in Apple’s new version of asr that our custom IPSW’s are tickling and causing crashes on, on some devices. (For the nerdy or curious among us, the details of that bug were tweeted by planetbeing a month ago.)
- As of Thursday morning we now have a workaround for #2. For #1, we’ll try our best to get it fixed but we may end up releasing a preliminary jailbreak in which YouTube doesn’t work for hacktivated devices, and then follow that up with a more complete jailbreak when we can.
