How to Jailbreak iPhone 3G[s] 3.0 Using Redsn0w and Windows
Following these directions will result in a jailbroken iPhone 3G[s]. The iPhone must be running 3.0 firmware. I recommend backing up your iPhone with iTunes before we start, just in case something goes awry.
First, you need to download these 2 files:
(All downloads require login)
Redsn0w 0.8 for Windows: Redsn0w 0.8 iPhone 3G[s] (Windows) (281)
iPhone 3G[s] 3.0 firmware: iPhone 3G[s] 3.0 Restore Firmware .ipsw (679)
Once you have saved these files to your desktop for easy access, we will begin the jailbreak process.
1. Extract Redsn0w and run the .exe file.
2. Click “Browse” and select the iPhone 3G[s] 3.0 firmware you downloaded. Click “Open”
3. After a second or so, Redsn0w will tell you that your IPSW has been identified. Click “Next”
4. Redsn0w will then prepare for jailbreak, let it do its thing.
5. You now want to make sure Cydia is checked. I suggest un-checking Icy; many people have had problems with it. Cydia is all you will need.
6. You now will put your iPhone 3G[s] into recovery mode. Follow the directions carefully.
- Make sure your iPhone is powered off.
Hold down the round Home button.
Connect the iPhone to your computer with the USB cable while still holding down the Home button.
Continue to hold the Home button until Redsn0w begins jailbreaking your iPhone.
7. Redsn0w will now begin uploading everything it needs to your iPhone.
8. Once it is finished you will see the done screen. Leave your iPhone connected via USB. You will see the Pwnage logo while it is finishing the jailbreak. DO NOT mess with your iPhone during this process. When it is done you will be back to your lock screen. You can now disconnect your iPhone and unlock it. Proceed to Cydia and install any apps you would like. Your iPhone 3G[s] is now jailbroken!

If anyone had problems downloading the files earlier please try again. I found a problem with the download server, but everything is working good now.
I get shut down on step

It tells me it’s “Unable to recognize specified IPSW” any ideas what the reason could be?
You did download the correct 3.0 firmware for the iPhone 3G that is posted here correct? When you click browse you are selecting the firmware you downloaded correct?
Yes sir, clicked on the above links. But then again I get this strong feeling that the technology hates me.
Ok, delete the Redsn0w that you downloaded and try downloading it again. What browser are you downloading it with ie. Firefox, Safari, IE?

Sorry I have to ask, you do have the new 3G[s] iPhone not the older 3G correct?
That is correct.
Hmm…without being able to look at exactly what you are doing, I’m not sure. Like I said, try deleting both files you downloaded and then download them again. Maybe something got corrupted during your original downloads. Keep me updated and I’ll continue to try and help.
I have to stop at the third step , it did not recognize the “ipsw”.

Hey! I downloaded the above links through firefox. When I open redsnow and select the ipsw file it says “Unable to recognize specified IPSW”. I dont know if anyone else has ran into this but i have downloaded both files above twice. I have an Iphone 3gs and im running the 3.0.1 OS. Any suggestions?
um right now my iphone screen just turned black and the redsn0w says waiting for a reboot is that right cause i got the 2nd generation iphone 8gb and i dont think it will work will it? someone reply thanks

If you just commented on the wrong post, then you have not entered DFU mode correctly. Start over again, make sure you follow step 9 very closely. The on screen instructions will walk you through the process.
There have been some updates and this will not work. 3gs V3.1 modem firmware 05.11.07 can you help?
It finishes and says done, but never goes to unlock screen. Cydia never installs.
