Please Note this is not a video of the Nintendo 3DS, But the game shown on the DSi is very similar to what the 3DS games will look like Nintendo has issued a press release revealing the tentative name of the DS’s successor: the Nintendo 3DS. As its name indicates, the new handheld system will support 3D gameplay, but notably without the need to wear 3D glasses; apparently, it will simulate an illusion of depth using a built-in sensor that follows your head’s movement, though this is currently unconfirmed. The 3DS will also support backwards compatibility with older DS and DSi titles. More details regarding the system will be revealed at the E3 convention on June 15th, and according to Nintendo, the 3DS will see an official Japanese release before March 2011. Nintendo has just slipped out a press release in Japan informing the world that all-new 3D-capable portable hardware is coming, with a full unveiling set for E3 2010 this June. Tentatively titled the 3DS, this glasses-free 3D wonder is pitched as the successor to both the DS and DSi, and will use a “compatible cart” that should ensure backwards compatibility with your vast library of favorites from the older consoles.
