Apple iPad 3G Reviews (Official)
The 3G version of Apple’s iPad goes on sale in the United States at 5 pm Friday, and so far, the crowds haven’t begun queueing in San Francisco. There have been reports of lines forming at a few stores on the East Coast. However, there isn’t an expectation of throngs turning out for the first sale the way they did for the Wi-Fi version of the iPad earlier this month. Apple on Friday said its stores will be closed for an hour, starting at 4 pm, to prepare for the device’s launch. People who preordered an iPad 3G should receive their shipments starting Friday too. Those who missed the preorder period will begin receiving their shipments by May 7, according to Apple’s Web site. Apple said it sold more than 300000 Wi-Fi-only iPads when they went on sale April 3. Because of the higher-than-expected demand, Apple said it was forced to delay the launch of the device for international markets until the end of May.

if i buy the apple ipad wifi+3g can i just buy the monthy fee of 3g or do need to be a paying costomer of at&t to be able to buy the3g coverage???

@tmtmaster4life i had the same opinion until i actually tried it. the ipad makes m netbook unnecessary, and is also much faster than my netbook. the ipad is actually perfect for me personaly, because i use my netbook to take notes in school. Its much easier to do so on the ipad (mainly because i doesn’t freeze)
Can’t believe peopole are dumb enough to pay this much for a hand held smart phone, its still not a computer, with 800 freckin bucks you could surely buy a decent labtop

Do you have to need to pay for an abonnement if you want internet when there is no wifi and what would be the price?
@eminem1022 you have to pay for 3G like an internet subscription at home. the device price has also been raised to support 3G
Problems:
1 – AT&T 3G latency is very bad and bandwidth varies greatly. Connection loss is very common. Youtube is downscaled in 3G mode. 3G Slingbox HD? I doubt it.
2 – Still no support for HD camcorder video files (AVCHD MTS, M2TS). Everything has to be transcoded to regular MPEG 4. Really slow on a Mac that does not allow GPU acceleration even though Apple claims to support OpenCL.
3 – WiFi shuts off every few minutes and must be manually reconnected each time.

if you turn off the cellular data in settings, would the carrier name disappear? goes to just “iPad” like the wifi version? or something else? let me know! (please)
@eminem1022 The Wi-Fi + 3G devices are $130 more expensive than their Wi-Fi only counterparts. To get the 3G coverage you’ll also have to purchase (although it’s not mandatory if you just want to use Wi-Fi) At&T 3G data plan for (in US at least) $14.99 (250mb a month) or $29.99 (unlimited)
