Instructions How To Jailbreak and Unlock Your OG iPhone On Windows With Redsn0w
These instructions will walk you through jailbreaking your iPhone on your PC using the Dev-Teams official Redsn0w software for Windows. This will not jailbreak the new iPhone 3G S. Redsn0w is also available for Mac (Intel only) You can follow the same instructions. I used Redsn0w on a Vista PC but it should work with XP as well.
Use Redsn0w to:
- Jailbreak and unlock OG iPhone
- Jailbreak iPhone 3G
- Jailbreak iPod Touch 1st Gen
- Jailbreak iPod Touch 2nd Gen
To begin, you will need to download the following: (all downloads require login)
- Redsn0w for Windows: Redsn0w for Windows (4873)
- Redsn0w for Mac (Intel only): Redsn0w for Mac OS X official torrent
- Official firmware for your device: iPhone OG 3.0 restore firmware .ipsw (1968)
- Bootloaders (Only if unlocking): iPhone 3.9 Bootloader (1368) iPhone 4.6 Bootloader (830)
Save these to your desktop for easy access.
1. Make sure you have updated your device officially to OS 3.0 through iTunes.
2. Make sure your iPhone is off. Do this by holding the power button (top of phone) then slide to power off.
3. Connect your iPhone via USB.
4. Start Redsn0w.exe
5. Browse for your firmware that you downloaded. (Make sure you have the correct firmware for your device) Then click next.
6. If you want to unlock your OG iPhone then check both Cydia and Unlock. If you do not need to Unlock then only have Cydia checked and proceed to step 7.
6 a. If you are unlocking your iPhone then you need to browse for the 3.9 and 4.6 Bootloaders that you should have downloaded and saved. Then click next.
7. Redsn0w will ask you to make sure your iPhone is powered off but you should have done that already. If you didn’t follow the directions to do it now.
8. Once your iPhone is off, be prepared for step 8 because it starts quickly, then click next.
9. This is where you will put your iPhone into DFU mode. Follow the instructions in order to achieve this.
10. If you correctly put your iPhone into DFU mode you will see that Redsn0w will begin the jailbreak process. Let it do it’s thing, which should take about 5 minutes. (Redsn0w crashed the first time I tried to jailbreak and left me with the “Running PwnApple” on my phone. Don’t worry, just power off your phone again and start the process from the beginning. It worked perfectly the 2nd time for me.)
Redsn0w gives you instructions through the entire process so you should not have any problems as long as you follow everything exactly. If you have any problems please leave a comment so we can help.

Well after following all the steps several times both on mac and pc I still ahve no unlock love. I have it jailbroken but after all is said and done it comes back up to the boot neuter screen but complains that it can’t communicate with … escapes me at the moment but reboots and my t-mob sim won’t work. any suggestions? OG 8gb iphone. other than that evrything else works fine.

i saved all of the stuff and put it on my desktop, and when i tried to open redsnOw, a black window apeared for less than a second, disapered, and nothing happened. can u please diagnose my problem.
What browser are you using to download it? Are you using Windows or Mac? Try deleting it and re-dowloading.
i was using google chrom. should i have been using firefox or something?
whenever i try to open the file, it says
“windows cannot open the folder
the compressed (zipped) folder is invalid”

I just downloaded it myself and it opened fine. Try using Firefox to download it if you can.

Try rebooting your computer. If that doesn’t work, delete the firmware and re-download.
iv’e tried that twice already, but i guess i could try it again. oh, and should i open it with itunes or save the file?

You shouldn’t have lost anything during the jailbreak because it does not require a restore. But, if you followed the directions and backed all that stuff up with iTunes then all you need to do is sync it all back after the jailbreak.
I just recently upgraded my I-phone to 3.1 and I downloaded the 3.1 firmware but it dosent seem to want to unlock it anymore. what should I do?
Redsn0w does not work with 3.1 You need to use Pwngage tool, but unfortunately it is only for Mac right now. If you search you can find a custom .ipsw that someone has made for a jailbroke and unlocked OG iphone. Once you have that, you need to use that custom FW to restore your iPhone through iTunes.
it works all the way through. but at the end my iphone’s screen continually has the picture with arrow point downward. and then the redsn0w will say done. and then it KEEPS going with the “downloading jailbreak data…”
did anyone ever help you with your jailbreak question? cuz i am having the same problem. the arrow pointing downwards and it says “downloading jailbreak data…” but just keeps spinning and spinning. please help if you figured out what to do about it. thanks

I am doing the process a second time the download process is slow and once it finishes i am not too sure how i can set it up for T-Mobile either (Help here would be appreciated) the first time i tried it the phone said to connect to itunes and then it said sim not supported or recognized.

I have an old gen 1 iphone that had been jailbroke and unlocked. I discontinued service with ATT last year and have been using my old iphone just for music. I connected to itunes today for the first time since I cancelled phone service with ATT and it promtped me to upgrade. I backed it up, upgraded and now the phone just has the “connect to itunes” logo. Itunes is prompting me to sign up as a new phone, but I cannot since I dont have service through them or to my iphone. I have downloaded and installed Redsnow successfully…but still have the “connect to itunes” and cant get past that. Any help?
After I download everything…it tells me to browse then select install cydia and unlock. That does not happen. What am I doing wrong?
It has been sayind downloading Jailbreak data for almost an hour. What dod I do now?
i have ran the whole program twice and it goes through the downloading jailbreak data and when my phone restarts it still has the connect to itunes logo/emergency calls only.
